World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Upgrades to an item are a way to increase the stats of an item. Depending on the upgrade type it can increase an item's Mark Level or Rarity, and also boost other stats.
Upgrades to equipment in The War Within requires a specified number of Flightstones and Crests, and each item comes with an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next one by a certain amount.
Item Level
When an item gets upgraded, its basic stats improve in value. This value is the sum of all of the perks that are leveled up (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be expensive depending on who you hire and what you decide to do. This is due to the fact that many perks have to be replaced to allow the item to be upgraded.
The level of an item is a widely used measure of power, and can be seen on all tooltips for items. It is also used as a gating requirement when queueing for dungeons, scenarios, and raids, as well as to limit the amount of PvP gear a player can wear (since PvP is limited to a lower level). Players can see their average level of items on their character sheet.
When deciding to purchase or sell equipment, players can compare the item level. It's an indicator of the damage and quality. Comparing items from a vendor's stock is possible using the item level.
The level of the item can be seen by pressing the ALT key on a PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will display the complete description of the item, as well as its ilvl. You can also find it by hovering over an item and typing in /itemlevel chat.
There are various theories about how the calculation of an item's level is made. One theory is that the item level is a numerical value derived from a formula that determines how much an item's stats are worth. It considers that different perks are valued differently, and that gems in the sockets increase the value of the item. This could result in a calculated item's ilvl that is often very close to Blizzard's real level of the item.
This is not the only thing that affects the ilvl of an item. The degree of the area in which the item dropped can also change its stats. For example, it could increase the item's haste, or crit rating. This means that items that drop at higher levels will have more value than items dropped in lower-level instances.
Item Stats
Item stats are a big element in what determines the value of an item for players. The game uses a lot of them in various ways to encourage players to use multiple weapons, and to prevent one weapon from being "the Best item upgrader." The stat mods on a weapon boost the base stats. These stat mods are then boosted by the player's level.
The upgrades to an item can increase its stats. The costs for upgrades are determined by the rarity of the item. For example, a grey or white item can only be upgraded once, while an item with the rare tiers will be upgraded several times at higher prices.
Another way to change the stats of an item is through affixes. They are stat boosters that can be added by the player to an item. The affixes could do things like give the item extra damage, add a special ability to the item (such as reviving the dead or cutting down the duration of cooldowns), or make the item unique by giving an exclusive name to the item.
Currently, all affixes can be modified by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button using the arrows that circle. This process will cost the player a certain amount of gold as well as items, which can be used to add to the upgrade gauge in the same way as the other rerolling options.
In addition to rerolling affixes, players can select which stats to keep on an item when it is upgraded. The stat ranges are determined by the Best item upgrader's level. However every item will contain at least one stat within the same range, unless it's an item that is unique, or an item that has a God Roll from a boss in a raid.
Another thing that could change is the option to upgrade equipment without having to reroll attachments, or pick which stats to increase. Like the base equipment, this must be done per item, and the item comparison interface will not show all possible stats at once.
Item Luck
The Luck stat of a player boosts the likelihood of locating items, the properties that are spawned by loot and the strength of these properties. However, it does not, directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It simply gives the player a chance to acquire better equipment in earlier waves, and is therefore more valuable in the early game than in later ones, since most players prefer greater weapon scaling and defense over raw damage gains.
In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the chances of success when upgrading items with the Blacksmith. This isn't to be confused with the Blacksmith’s overall chance of upgrading, which increase with each new level of item. They can also be increased with the use of anti-materials, such as the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.
Armor, shields and weapons can spawn or be crafted using the Luck property, which has a default value of 40. These items can be upgraded with golden ingots, spined leather or oak boards (depending on the material of the item) to grant a further +40 Luck or to increase the Luck of an item upgrader kit, up to 140.
Certain items, such as the Hollow-infused weapon can also be outfitted to increase the damage dealt by any ability that deals damage by 5percent. These items can be purchased in the shop or created using the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Upgrades to items can be costly and not all upgrades will succeed. However, there are cash shop items which allow players to increase their success rate or prevent themselves from losing an item if the upgrade item is unsuccessful.
When you upgrade an item, the success rate is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the likelihood of successfully upgrading an item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special materials. The percentage of success can only be increased as high, and the probability that an upgrade will fail can't exceed 100%..
The Luck of an item can affect the success of an upgrade. Every item has an average success rate of 25% and every item with Luck increases the chance of success by 5percent.
It is important to note that upgrade items are rendered above the items in the inventory, so enchantment glint and other effects may be obscured by them. If you wish to disable the Upgrade Item overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
