Lucy Letby has mounted a fresh bid from behind bars to appeal her convictions for murdering seven babies in a Neo Drops Bewertungen natal unit of the Countess of Chester Hospital.

The serial killer, 34, was sentenced to 14 whole life orders last year after she was convicted of the murders of seven babies and the attempted murders of six more.

The former nurse had an initial bid to challenge her convictions refused by a judge without a hearing in January.

Letby has since chosen to fight again to take forward her appeal, a judical spokeswoman said yesterday.

A hearing is set to be held in London before a panel of three senior judges, who will make a decision on whether to accept the appeal.

Letby, of Hereford, was convicted of the horrific crimes in August last year.

The tragic offences happened at the Countess of Chester Hospital's neonatal unit, where Letby worked as a nurse between June 2015 and June 2016.

Applications for permission to appeal against a crown court decision are usually considered by a judge examining legal documents without an official hearing.

People then have two weeks to renew their bid for permission at a full court hearing if that is refused.

The jury at the former nurse's trial was unable to reach verdicts on six counts of attempted murder regarding five infants.

It was reported last month that Letby was given a key to her own cell, according to a report, with a prison insider describing her cushy new life on the inside as being like a 'hotel - but you're surrounded by criminals'.

Having the key to her cell means that Letby can lock herself away from fellow inmates if she feels threatened by them.

It is believed that keys are handed to the residents of category A HMP Bronzefield as a reward for good behaviour on the inside.

The move caused significant upset for the grieving parents of Letby's victims.
