World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Upgrades to items are a method to boost the stats of an item. Depending on the upgrade type it could increase an item's Mark Level or Rarity, as well as boost other stats.

Upgrading equipment in The War Within requires a set number of Flightstones and Crests Each Best item upgrade has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the price of the next item by a certain amount.

Item Level

When an item gets upgraded, its base stats improve in value. The value is the sum of all the upgraded benefits (attack, magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be expensive, depending on the person you hire and what you do. This is due to the fact that many perks have to be replaced in order for the item to get upgraded.

The level of an item is a commonly used measure of power, and is visible on all tooltips of items. It is also used as a gating requirement while waiting for dungeons, raids and scenarios, and to limit the amount of PvP gear a player can wear (since PvP is limited to a lower level). The average level of an item can be found in the character sheet.

The level of an item can help players compare the potency of gear when they decide to buy or sell. It's a useful indicator of the quality of an Best item upgrader and how much damage it's able to deal. The item level can also be used to evaluate items when looking at the inventory of a seller.

The level of the item can be seen by pressing the ALT key on a PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will show the item's full description, including ilvl. It can also be found by hovering over an item using the mouse cursor and entering /itemlevel into chat.

There are several theories about how the item level is calculated. One theory is that the item level is a number that comes from a formula that determines the value of an item's stats are worth. It takes into account the fact that different perks have different worth and gems in sockets add to the item's overall value. This can lead to a calculated item's ilvl that is typically very close to Blizzard's real item upgrader level.

However, this is not the only factor which affects an item's ilvl, because the level of the region the item was dropped in could alter the value of its stats, for instance by adding an amount to its crit rating or haste rating. Items dropped in higher-level instances will have higher ilvl.

Item Stats

Stats on an item are a significant component of what determines the value of an item for players. The game uses them in various ways to encourage players not to restrict themselves to a particular weapon and to motivate players to explore other weapons. The base stats on a weapon are enhanced by the weapon's stat mods that are in turn enhanced by the player's level.

Item upgrades add to that by increasing certain stats on the item. The costs for upgrades are determined by the rarity of the item. For instance, a gray or white item can only be upgraded once, whereas an item with rare levels will be upgraded multiple times at higher prices.

Another method of altering the stats on an item is by affixing it. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item upgrade by the player and are available in all sizes and shapes. The affixes can be used to give items additional damage or other special capabilities (such as reviving dead or reducing cooling downs) or to distinguish them by adding a name.

Presently, all affixes are able to be changed by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button, which is accompanied by the arrows that circle. This will cost a certain amount of gold and other items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges similar to other rerolling methods.

Players can upgrade an item to a specific stat or reroll affixes. The stat ranges are determined by the item's level. However every item will include at least one stat within the range, unless they are a unique item or a God Roll from a raid boss.

This is another aspect that could be altered by adding an option to upgrade the equipment without rerolling the affixes, or selecting which stats to increase. But as with base equipment, this would have to be done on a per-item level, and the interface for item comparison will not show all the stats that could be that were gained or lost at the same time.

Item Luck

A player's Luck stat stacks up to increase the chances of item discoveries, the properties spawned on loot drops and the strength of these properties. It does not, however, directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It simply gives players a chance to acquire better equipment earlier in the game and is therefore more useful in early game runs as opposed to later ones, as most players prioritize more powerful weapon scaling and defenses over damage gains.

In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the chances of success when upgrading items with the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade chance which increases with each level and can be further increased by using an anti-material, such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields, and weapons have a default Luck value of 40. These items can be enhanced with golden ingots, spined leather or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to grant a further +40 Luck or to boost the luck of the item up to 140.

Certain items, like the weapon with Hollow-infused components can also be crafted to increase the damage dealt by any skill that causes damage by 5percent. These items are available in the shop, or they can be constructed using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades are successful. Cash shop items can be used to increase the success rate of an upgrade or to stop players from losing their item if it fails.

The success rate of an upgrade is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the chance of completing the upgrade successfully and can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The chance of success can only be increased so much, and the chance that an upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%.

The success of an item can be affected by the luck of the item. Every item has a base success rate of 25%, and every item with Luck increases the chance of success by an additional 5%.

Note that item upgrades are rendered above the items in the inventory therefore enchantment glints and other effects may be obstructed by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
